ili.ad presented its Solar capsule collection at WantedDesign Manhattan’s 2022 Launch Pad, held at the Javits Center in New York from May 15–17, 2022. The program brought together 46 emerging designers and studios working across furniture, lighting, home accessories, and collectible objects, with Ili.ad included among the selected participants.
Launch Pad is WantedDesign’s platform for emerging international designers, created to introduce new concepts and prototypes to manufacturers, design professionals, press, and the broader architecture and interiors community. Presented within ICFF + WantedDesign Manhattan, the program gave independent studios a public setting for experimental work at the threshold between prototype, collection, and market presentation.
The Solar capsule collection included a screen, console, and dining chair developed from ili.ad’s studies of tubular architectural systems and facade geometry. Drawing from the logic of brise-soleil elements, the works translated rhythm, shading, repetition, and structural ornament into domestic forms.
Shown as prototypes, the collection introduced several themes that would continue through later bodies of work: the transformation of architectural surfaces into intimate objects, the tension between industrial repetition and hand-finished objecthood, and the studio’s interest in treating furniture as a compressed architectural proposition.
