Coquille Cup

A trophy from some imaginary shell game, the Coquille Cup hoists a scallop-parfait hallucination. Its smooth body climbs in long-and-short rhythms like an Bobbi Humphrey ornamental flute line over an idling engine. Part folly, part tournament prize for a Ballardian crash reenactment on a Plan Obus skyway. Below, the form tightens into something stranger and more mechanical, as if a shell grotto had been fitted with a distributor cap and sent out for the victory lap.

The Coquille Cup is a tall open vessel with a broad, scalloped mouth and a smooth, rhythmic body organized by alternating long and short ribs. Its proportions recall a parfait glass or trophy cup, while the base gathers into a tighter mechanical footing, pulling shellwork and the collection’s decorative vessel language into a more vertical register.
